Remote Design in the Stone Age

It’s common knowledge that graphic design can be done remotely these days due to the advent of the computer. But even before the internet I was doing quite a few projects with out of town clients using fax machines, sending tissue and comp layouts by FedEx and yes even the telephone to communicate.

During the signed and numbered silk-screen poster craze of the 1980s I did a poster for a reggae festival in Jamaica and a 50th commemorative poster for an international clay court tennis tournament in Houston, Texas.

On the sly I designed 2 outdoor boards for the hated Atlanta Falcons football team.

In the early 1990s I created an ad for CBS Sports Radio on their baseball broadcasts and an ad for the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City promoting their hotel as the place to do business in the city.
