Rotogravure printing is a high-volume, industrial intaglio process.
The Dixie Roto, The Times Picayune’s Sunday magazine from 1946-94 , was folded into the Sunday paper. Pages were filled with local history, features, recipes and lots of color photos. For most of the Dixie Roto’s publication, the newspaper photography was printed in black and white only.

Below are three Dixie Roto covers I illustrated in the early 1980s.

Cover illustration for a story on the Brennan families restaurant empire schism that split the family apart.
Cover illustration for a story about two private investigators and how they’re paid to watch people.
Cover illustration for a story about New Orleans soul singer Johnny Adams, “ The Tan Canary”.
